"John Mountjoy GARRARD, son of Governor James and Elizabeth Mountjoy GARRARD, was born in Stafford Count, VA., November 26th 1778. He was appointed and served as Paymater in the army during the war of 1812. A few years afterward he went to Pendleton County and engaged in farming and raising fine stock, in which he was greatly interested. On May 25th, 1805, he married Sara SHIPP, daughter of Laban SHIPP and Elizabeth JOHNSON, who was a sister of Robert JOHNSON who came from Virginia to Kentucky in its early settlement; and aunt of Hon.
